Poker is a card game in which players compete for an amount of money or chips contributed by other players. There are many variants of poker, but most have the same basic elements: a fixed number of cards, betting rounds, and a showdown to determine the winner. Players must use their knowledge of odds and probability to make decisions at the table. In most games, a player can win only by having the highest-ranking poker hand or by making a bet that no other player calls.<\/p>\n
Each round of poker begins with a player placing a bet (called \u201craising\u201d) into the pot.
