Poker is a game of cards where players try to form the best possible poker hand. The highest ranking hand wins the pot. The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, although some variant games use more cards or add wild cards. The suits are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. The card with the highest rank is an Ace (which can also be low). Some theories trace the origin of poker back to Asia, with connections to 10th-century Chinese domino games and the 16th-century Persian game As Nas. However, the most likely immediate antecedent is the 17th-century French game Poque.
